Fields' Revelry is a homecoming, family reunion, and celebration of the life and memory of a one-of-a-kind human, William Lindley. William grew up in Burlington, NC active in the Boy Scouts. He studied American History at UNC Chapel Hill and earned his Masters Degree in Appalachian Studies in 2013 from Appalachian State University. He lived for outdoor adventure, books, meeting new people, deep thinking, asking big questions, social justice and equity, and nurturing relationships. He loved the Appalachian South and working for positive change within the region. William was known for his bright red hair, hitchhiking stories, faded Carhart shorts, and bright smile. William hiked 800 miles of the Appalachian Trail, WOOFed (Worldwide Opportunities on Organic Farms) in New Zealand, and worked many years with the Appalachian Service Project. His unique approach to teaching classes at Appalachian State about Appalachian culture enlightened students on many levels.
On June 1, 2014 William died unexpectedly from a grand mal seizure at the age of 30. His family, friends, and community were devastated. William had a deep positive impact on the lives of hundreds of people.
3 years later, a small group of William's friends began organizing an event in his honor that we call Fields' Revery. "Fields" comes from William's Appalachian Trail name. We hope you'll join us in celebrating our dear friend William with fellowship, food, song, and dance.
